Ballistic Missile Defense System Test Successful

By on Jul 31, 2017 in Press Release |

WASHINGTON, July 30, 2017 — The Missile Defense Agency and soldiers of the 11th Air Defense Artillery Brigade from Fort Bliss, Texas, conducted a successful missile defense test today using the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system, according to a Missile Defense Agency news release. A medium-range target ballistic missile was air-launched by an Air Force C-17 Globemaster III over the Pacific Ocean. The THAAD weapon system, located at Pacific Spaceport Complex Alaska in Kodiak, detected, tracked and intercepted the target. The test, designated Flight Experiment THAAD (FET)-01, was conducted to gather threat data from a THAAD interceptor in flight, the release said. “In addition to successfully intercepting the target, the data collected will allow MDA to enhance the THAAD weapon system, our modeling and simulation capabilities, and our ability to stay ahead of the evolving threat,” said Air Force Lt. Gen. Sam Greaves, Missile Defense Agency director. Soldiers from the 11th Air Defense Artillery Brigade conducted launcher, fire control and radar operations using the same procedures they would use in an actual combat scenario.  Soldiers operating the equipment were not aware of the actual target launch time, the release said. 15th Successful Intercept This was the 15th successful intercept in 15 tests for the THAAD weapon system. The THAAD element provides a globally-transportable, rapidly-deployable capability to intercept ballistic missiles inside or outside the atmosphere during their final, or terminal, phase of flight. THAAD is strictly a defensive weapon system. The system uses hit-to-kill technology where kinetic energy destroys the incoming target, according to the release. The mission of the Missile Defense Agency is to develop and deploy a layered ballistic missile defense system to defend the United States, its deployed forces, allies and friends from ballistic missile attacks of all ranges in all phases of flight, the release...

The Modern Press Release: Two Don’ts and Three Do’s

By on Jul 30, 2017 in Press Release |

We start with a paean to the humble press release. The first press release was issued in 1906 by the Pennsylvania Railroad, under the direction of public relations expert Ivy Lee, to provide media with an on-the-ground account of facts about the 1906 Atlantic City train wreck. Since then, it has become a staple in marketing promotion, public affairs, and politics. As we arrive at the 111th anniversary of the press release, it seems appropriate to examine this marketing tool and its optimal uses. Ideally, a press release enables an organization to share the facts of a new development in a way that will have the most impact on its target audiences. If the content is newsworthy, the release can capture the attention of relevant media outlets, which might then reach out for more information to develop a story of their own. If it is particularly well-written, the release has the potential to be posted verbatim on one or more media outlets. (Such was the case on Oct. 30, 1906, when the New York Times printed the Pennsylvania Railroad press release word for word.) In all cases, the press release allows the brand to carefully craft and control the message—accentuating the elements it wants, avoiding those that it doesn’t—and establish a messaging foundation for other versions of the news, or suppositions, that might be shared subsequently. However, the potential power of the press release is sometimes misunderstood by those who aren’t studied PR practitioners. Many self-marketing entrepreneurs or others serving in some marketing function often believe—falsely—that writing and distributing a press release means guaranteed free company publicity and a third-party media endorsement. Others wrongly believe there’s no such thing as “too much of a good thing” and so they document every move made by the company and send it along to the media. Acting on those beliefs can be fraught with problems, so I would urge that companies consider a more strategic approach. If you are Google, Apple ,or McDonald’s, these guidelines likely don’t apply to you: If you ever decided to change your logo, the world would pay rapt attention. For everyone else, though (including most global corporations), there are some best-practices regarding press releases as marketing tools....

Socialite couple announce ‘Trump divorce’ in press release

By on Jul 30, 2017 in Press Release |

Politics isn’t only dividing the nation, but tearing apart marriages too, according to one newly separated Florida couple. The tony Palm Beach couple’s “Trump Divorce” was announced Thursday in a press release from a firm representing the wife. “Dave and Lynn Aronberg Sign Amicable Divorce Settlement Putting an End to What Some Were Calling The Trump Divorce,” the release said. Lynn Aronberg, a former Miami Dolphins cheerleader, and Dave Aronberg, the Palm Beach County state attorney, had been married for less than two years, according to the Palm Beach Post. In an unusual move, the release goes on to detail the personal differences that led to the end of the marriage. The release said Lynn Aronberg, 36, is a “staunch Republican and supporter of President Trump” and felt “increasingly isolated in the marriage.” Her ex-husband, 46, is a Democrat. The statement also included the financial terms of the settlement, the Palm Beach Post reported. Lynn Aronberg, who runs her own media relations firm, reportedly will receive $100,000 worth of benefits in “exchange for her signature on the dotted line.” Her ex will also cover Lynn’s rent in a luxury Boca Raton condo until next summer along with a new BMW and $40,000 cash. The settlement comes after she filed for divorce in March — less than two months after President Donald Trump was...
